Sixth edition of Calicut Mini-Marathon to be held on March 1
The organizing committee has received over 500 entries online for the Calicut Mini-Marathon being organized by students of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K).
“We have many athletes coming in from multiple countries, including Ethiopia and Kenya,” said one of the organizers to The Hindu . The online registration for the event at calicutmarathon.in was launched on the IIMK campus two weeks ago.
The sixth edition of the mini-marathon, organized in collaboration with the Kerala Police and the Angel Foundation, will be held in the city on March 1.
The marathon features two categories, a 10-km mini-marathon, which is a competitive race, and a three-km ‘Dream Run,’ a non-competitive run featuring people from all walks of life.
‘Road safety’ theme
Over the past five years, the marathon has been taking up different social causes every year.
Critical issues such as women empowerment, rights of the differently abled, waste management, and organ donation were some of its themes in the past.
The IIM-K students are organizing a variety of programs to drum up support and awareness for the event in different parts of the city. They organized a flash mob on the Calicut beach as well as at the Focus Mall here recently.
A mock drill was also carried out by a team of medical emergency experts from the Angel Foundation in support of ‘road safety,’ which is the theme of the run this year. The event carries a variety of prizes, including prize money of Rs.2 lakh.
