Mekelle University – William Shakespeare’s Othello translated to Tigrigna by Hailemeloket Mewael and directed by Ataklti Hailesilassie debut on January 25, 2015 at Hawlti Martyrs Monument assembly hall, Mekelle.
The theatrical art is organized by the Department of Theatrical Arts of the Collage of Social Science and Languages, MU.
On the occasion, artist Kiros Hailesilassie, welcoming the audience said that “I would like to thank members of Department of Theatrical Art, Mekelle University, and the translator for scarifying their golden time in painstakingly translate this theater to Tigrigna and make this a reality. We are celebrating this event on the eve of YEKATIT the fortieth anniversary of the foundation of TPLF.
Dr. Kindeya G/Hiwot of Mekelle University on his opening speech said that “We are celebrating this event on the eve of YEKATIT, this is the first step to Tigina theatrics. This is the difficult one which indicates the strength of the actress and actors. And we can support such kinds of activities”. Lastly he expressed his gratitude to the department of theatrical arts.
On the celebration His Excellency Ato Tesfaye Shemles head of Beharawi Theatr delegates of Minister, ministry of Culture and Tourism, his Excellency Ato Kebede Amare General Manager of Culture and Tourism Agency of Tigray region, other many guests, staff and students of MU attended the Theater.
