Vision Aid Overseas has invited optical professionals to participate in this year’s Great Ethiopian Run on November 22.
The 10k race through Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, which is Africa’s highest city at over 2000 metres above sea level, was said to be a greater challenge than other runs of the same distance.
Thirty five runners have already joined the VAO team, which will embark on a six day trip to help celebrate the organisation’s 30th anniversary.
Bristol OO Ruth Davies, a partner at Newsom & Davies Opticians, is one of the runners. On the race, she said: ‘A friend reminded me about the 10K Great Ethiopian Run taking place in Addis Ababa and challenged me to join her. I could not refuse such an unusual opportunity to do something that would benefit the wonderful charity I had supported and been part of for so long.’
