The Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, is expected to hold discussion with Indian businessmen on the side lines of the India-Africa Forum Summit expected to commence on October 26, 2015 at New Delhi, India – disclosed Office of the Prime Minister.
The Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sanjay Verma, said the Prime Minister will be in India to have a round table discussion with India’s leading corporate CEOs apart from participating on the summit.
“The presence of Honorable Prime Minister of Ethiopia is confirmed. The PM will be in India not only to participate in the India-Africa Forum but also to have a round table discussion with Indian top business people,” Verma told Walta.
He noted that India is a big country with a population of more than 1.22 billion and is home to more than 1 million companies.
The Ambassador also said that India is one of the top three foreign direct investors in Ethiopia. According to him, Indians have invested more than USD 4.6 billion over that past decade in Ethiopia while providing concessional loan totaling USD 1 billion for the development and expansion of sugar projects in the country.
The Ambassador also told Walta that the Ethio-Indian relations started since over a century ago. India has been engaged business in Ethiopia for more than 120 years now.
Ethiopia and India started official diplomatic relation since 1950. Since then, 21 Indian ambassadors have been appointed to Ethiopia.
