Walia Ibex coach Yohannes Sahle went with experience as he named his strong 23 man squad that will travel to Rwanda for CHAN 2016 that commences on January 17.
St. George’s midfielder Behailu Assefa is the most experienced player in the team having played in the 2013 AFCON hosted by South Africa, 2014 World Cup qualifier and CHAN 2014 where he played a crucial role commanding a starting place on the team then under coach Sewnet Bishaw.
Other notable players on the team include Alula Girma also a St.George veteran lanky Asrat Megersa who was also a regular figure in the 2013 AFCON and 2014 CHAN teams.
Speaking to supersport.com Coach Yohannes Sahle alluded to the fact that he had blended youth and experience in the team.
“We are taking the Chan competition seriously that is why I sought to blend experience with youth to give the team more impetus. It was a delicate balancing act but I believe I have chosen players that will give us the results we need as they are used to such big competitions,” Coach Yohannes Sahle told supersport.com.
Influential midfielder Gatoch Panom, experienced keeper Abel Mamo, striker Ramkel Lol and youngster Aschalew Tamene who also played crucial roles in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, CECAFA 2015, and AFCON2017 qualifiers also made the team.
