Bahir Dar University’s application for membership to the International Association of Universities (IAU) has been accepted.
On a confirmation statement sent to the University, Bahir Dar University (BDU) has met, as an institution, all the criteria for admission as set by the IAU Administrative Board.
BDU, by being a member of IAU, will become entitled to all membership benefits. Among these are, full online access to the IAU’s database on higher education systems, administration, planning, policy, and evaluation.
The membership will also allow BDU to announce special programs, courses or events of interest to the broader higher education community all over the world by posting on the association’s website.
The International Association of Universities (IAU) is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)-based worldwide association of higher education institutions. Also known as the International Universities Bureau of the United Nations, it brings together 641 higher education institutions and organizations (as of September 2013) from 120 countries for “reflection and action on common concerns and collaborates with various international, regional and national bodies active in higher education.”
In other news related to BDU, the University signed a cooperative agreement on the promotion of academics, research and technology transfer with University of Gadarif, Sudan.
On the agreement, the two universities have pledged to encourage their academic staff, departments and research institutions to cooperate with each other on the agreed fields of cooperation.
The two universities have particularly agreed to consult and exchange ideas, staff and student exchange, to create and maintain student to student relations for educational expeditions and joint academic assignments.
It has been noted on the agreement that the cooperation of the two universities will advance the friendly relations between Ethiopia and Sudan.
Dr. Fikreselam Gared, BDU’s Vice President for Information and Strategic Communication and Professor Ibrahim Abdelsalam Yousif, Vice Chancellor of the University of Gadarif have signed the agreement.
