Khartoum (SUNA)―The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Badr-Eddin Mahmoud Abbas has called for Economic integration between Sudan and Ethiopia in the fields of banking.
This came in his meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank of Ethiopia in Khartoum Thursday, in the presence of the Central Bank of Sudan’s Governor Abdul-Rahman Hassan Abdul-Rahman.
The Minister of Finance affirmed to provide all the necessary facilities and to avail opportunities for the Ethiopian and Sudanese banks to work in the two countries in order to advance forward in the banking business, the exchange of experiences among them and expand the frameworks of joint cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.
For his part, the Central Bank’s Governor explained that the Ethiopian Central Bank’s governor has met with the President of the Republic and briefed him on the cooperation between the two countries in the economic fields, adding that the President of the Republic pledged that the leaderships of the two countries would support the economic cooperation and integration so that its impact on the countries of the region to be positive.
The Governor of the Central Bank called for implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding, which has been signed between the two central banks in the two countries, calling for dealing with Sudanese pounds in Ethiopia and the Ethiopian birr in Sudan, referring to the aspiration of the peoples of the two countries to deal in a single currency between the two countries, expansion of banks and increase the correspondents with the commercial banks in the two countries and opening of a branch for the Ethiopian Commercial Bank in Sudan to simplify banking and commercial dealings between the two countries.
