Rift Valley University Founder and Owner, Mr. Dinku Dayas and Mr. Fayisa Faji, GM of of OBS Visited Washington and Lee University in Lexington Virginia, USA
Washington and Lee University, one of the oldest and liberal elite University in the United States of America received Mr. Dinku Dayas to discuss potential for partnership between Rift Valley University and Washington and Lee University.
Mr. Dinku, along with his General Manager, Mr. Fayisa Faji, were received by the University Vice-President Dr. Daniel Wubah and Mark Rush who is a Professor of Politics and Law and Director of the Global Learning Center at Washington and Lee University. Mr. Henok Gabisa, a Visiting International Law Fellow at Washington and Lee University School of Law also attended the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was focused on identifying needs and efforts of both Universities intended to establish ties, academic collaboration and a joint partnership between both universities on research, academic projects, staff exchange, scholarship promotions, capacity building in Ethiopia, the Horn of Africa and beyond.
Vice President Daniel Wubah commended Mr. Dinku and Fayisa for abroad-based academic investment in higher education and philanthropic activities they are undertaking in Oromia and Ethiopia. Dr. Daniel mentioned that Washington and Lee University is delighted to get to know Rift Valley University’s academic and research efforts; and affirmed that in due course the relationship between both universities would evolve into specific form of mutual cooperation and academic partnership. In order to make that happen, in the coming spring semester of 2016, a group of delegation from Washington and Lee University will travel to Ethiopia to visit Rift Valley University with further intent to develop and strengthen the joint collaboration and ties between both Universities.
After meeting with the Vice-President (Provost), Mr. Dinku Dayasa and Fayisa Faji were taken on a tour of the University Campus and the Law School by Professor Mark Rush and Mr. Henok Gabisa. Professor Mark Rush provided on behalf of Washington and Lee University a gift for Mr. Dinku in appreciation of his unreserved efforts to transform Ethiopia’s private higher education system (pictured below). Mark also made speech introducing Washington and Lee’s Honor System, which is about 170 years old custom and one of the unique features of the University in all of American higher education. Dinku and Fayisa also met with Professor Thomas Speedy at the Law School where they discussed the potential to create a joint academic platform between both Universities.
Mr. Dinku expressed his interest to expand Rift Valley’s readiness to partner and collaborate with Washington and Lee. He also reaffirmed his personal commitment towards enhancing the budget and resource of the Rift Valley University to help execute the partnership. Mr. Dinku has also expressed his burning desire to contribute towards the capacity building efforts of Ethiopia and beyond. He reaffirmed that Rift Valley University will continue to take a leading role in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa to continue to produce the finest mind who will continue to transform the region’s economic development gained in recent years.
