Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO) has donated more than 25,000 text and reference books as well as journals concentrating on various areas to Hawassa University (Hawassa, Ethiopia).
On the books handover event held on March 29/2016 at the Hawassa University President’s office Mr. Bob Sturtevant, Forester at Colorado State University said that, the two sister universities have long-lasting collaborative linkages mainly on researches and education sectors.
Mr. Bob stressed that the donated books and journals value more than 100,000 US dollars and his team made a tedious effort in collecting, organizing and transporting the books to it.
Professor Fikre Dessalegn, Academic Vice President at Hawassa University and delegate of the University President, said on the event the arrival of the donated books from Colorado State University solves the shortages of reference books mainly at the newly opened campuses of Hawassa University and expressed his gratitude on the behalf of the University community.
The two Universities signed memorandum of understanding to work together on quality of education, sustainable environment and research based staff exchange since 2012.
It was learned that Mr. Bob and his wife Nancy stayed in Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resources for over two years and contributed to their level best in sharing their experiences. Dr. Paul Evangelista, Research Scientist at Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, Colorado State University and member of the book collecting team on his part thanked the Dr. Tony Frank President of Colorado State University and Dr. Yosef Mamo President of Hawassa University for their commitments to take the collaboration of the two Universities to a visible strategic partnership level.
