The newly built Hawassa Industrial Park and Hawassa University (HU) are already speeding up to mimic partnership so as to engage students in the country’s booming industrialization.
The City Hawassa, like all other parts of the blooming nation, is witnessing the crystal clear evidence of fast growth. The Ethiopian Airlines started flights from Addis Ababa to Hawassa last 16 April 2016 and the Mojo–Hawassa highway similar to Addis–Adama has been practically started. Huge Hotel and other settings are starting as well as becoming operational every now and then. In line with this Hawassa Industrial Park located very close to HU is proving a key partner to the University in technology transfer and job market for the graduates.
So far the Ethiopian Industrial Park Development Corporation (EPIC) Designers Ltd. of Hong Kong and Busana Apparel Group, Indonesia have come to HU, discussed with the University’s officials and gave presentation to graduating students expressing the type of jobs they have for them. It is expected that they would shortly send members of their human resources and recruit fresh graduates of the University and give them the necessary trainings both in country and abroad at their main plants where their new staff would get hands on training as well as exposure to the working culture of the pioneer industries.
This is highly encouraging to HU and the nation at large that the already existing culture of human resource soliciting by leading companies of the nation like Ethiopian Airlines, Banks and others is joined by world-class companies operating in Ethiopia.
The Hawassa Industrial Park has been visited by HU top management and guests of honor for the HU 2015/16 graduation H.E. Dr. Carlos Lopes, UN Undersecretary and Secretary General of UN-ECA, Dr. Arkebe Oqubay, Minister and Advisor to the Prime Minister and other officers. It was noted on the event that the whole structure that appeared in nine month time is inspiration in various ways both for the construction industry and many more. Especially fascinating is its zero discharge policy where all the liquid waste is completely recycled and utmost care is given to make the setting environmentally friendly. It is learned that the park shall be officially inaugurated tomorrow, Wednesday July 13, 2016 in a grand event in presence of key government officers and stakeholders.
