Hawassa University’s Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resource held its 37th graduation commencement on June 25, 2016, colorfully. A total of 517 students graduated and received their degrees from the guests of honor of the ceremony during the occasion held at the College.
After exhaustive studies of 3 years, the graduates have taken the degree recognition to serve the community in their professions. Guest of honor Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change H.E Dr. Shiferaw Teklemariam has handed out gold medal award for the best graduates.
Dr. Girma Mengesha, Dean of Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resource, delivered opening speech and handed out degree award for the graduates. In his speech Dr. Girma said that the College is discharging its responsibility to build green – based economy in the country through training on forest and natural resource and thematic research. Furthermore, the college works underway to assist efforts of increasing forest coverage at national level on nationwide programs.
At the closing remark H.E Dr. Shiferaw Teklemariam stated that Ethiopia’s forest coverage is increasing from time to time because of strong political commitment and active participation of the Universities by knowledge-based efforts in the sector.
He also added that Wondo Genet College of Forestry and Natural Resource, is the only higher institution that produces skilled human power in the areas of forest and Natural resource for a long time in the country.
Dr. Wubalem Tadesse, Ethiopian forest research institute Director, Deputy Director of Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority Mr. Kumra Wakjira, HU top officials including the Prof. Yosef Mamo – President, Vice Presidents, Senate members, invited guests, academic and admin staff members of the College and graduated students’ family attended the ceremony.
Among the 517 graduates, 70 are postgraduate students. The ceremony was adorned by Habesha Band’s ironic song “Enkwan des alachihu” (~’congratulations’) and Ethiopian national anthem.
