The featured artist at The Stone Cup for November and December will be Theresa Beck. Here show is titled Field Journals: Colorado and Ethiopia. Ms. Beck explains her latest work thusly:

“I love to travel and paint whether it’s afar, in the Rockies, or out my back door in the garden. Nature inspires and awakens in me a connection to God and His creation. I believe kinship with the earth and its people heals.

On a recent trip to Ethiopia, our family toured the northern region of Amhara – a cradle of civilization. Across bumpy, dusty roads we drove miles into the back country taking in the beautiful terraced farmlands and Ethiopians walking with herds along the roadside to arrive at Simien National Forest on top of the world. This encaustic series is the result of many watercolor sketches and drawings made during that trip and are the tangible memories of times shared with family and friends as well as new friendships forged on the journey. I’ve learned that art can be an international language bringing huge smiles and goodwill between cultures.

I hold my encaustic paintings loosely as they evoke memories, translation and transcendence with the emergence of a narrative that speaks to my heart and spirit. The beauty of land, people, culture, experiences, life and seasons of joy are threads that continue to bind my work.”

Theresa received her MFA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1986. She lives with her family in Boulder, where she paints and teaches encaustic workshops. She exhibits in Colorado as well as in other galleries both nationally and internationally.

There will be an opening reception to meet the artist on Sunday, November 6, from 1 to 5 p.m., at The Stone Cup (442 High Street, Lyons, CO 80540).
